Ethereum ETFs bleed $320 million in a week: why is ETH price refusing to crash?

Share

US-listed Ethereum exchange-traded funds registered $320.1 million in net outflows during the week of October 12–16, 2026, according to SoSoValue.

BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust accounted for $299 million of those withdrawals, representing approximately 93% of the weekly total.

The redemptions indicate weaker demand through these investment products, adding pressure to near-term sentiment.

However, ETF flows alone do not establish how liquidity has changed across the wider Ethereum market.

Despite the withdrawals, the technical forecast showed buyers maintaining control above several short-term trend indicators.

Ethereum remains above Moving Averages

On the hourly chart, ETH traded above its 20-period and 50-period moving averages. Ethereum remained above its daily 200-period moving average, providing some longer-term technical support.

However, the cryptocurrency was still trading below its 20-day and 50-day moving averages, indicating that the recent recovery had not fully reversed the broader weakness.

The $2,380–$2,383 area remains an important short-term support reference, while buyers face resistance near $2,479.

Holding above support would strengthen the consolidation outlook, although a decisive breakout has yet to emerge.

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator supported positive momentum, while Bull/Bear Power readings pointed to buyer strength.

The Average Directional Index stood near 25, indicating moderate trend strength rather than a firmly established directional move. ADX does not independently establish whether buyers or sellers are in control.

Hourly momentum indicators showed buyers regaining some control, although the daily chart painted a weaker picture.

The daily RSI remained below 50 and MACD stayed negative, suggesting that the short-term recovery had yet to reverse the broader corrective trend.

The Relative Strength Index stood at 62.62 on the one-hour timeframe, indicating positive momentum while remaining below the conventional overbought threshold of 70.

The Stochastic RSI indicated overbought conditions, while the Commodity Channel Index remained positive but below its conventional overbought threshold.

That combination suggests stronger short-term momentum without confirming that all indicators are stretched.

That combination leaves room for consolidation as buyers digest recent gains. Overbought readings can signal stretched short-term conditions, but they do not automatically imply an approaching reversal.

The key question is whether Ethereum can maintain support while momentum cools.

Ethereum technical outlook: $2,380–$2,479 becomes a crucial trading range

The ETH/USD daily chart shows that Ethereum could consolidate between $2,380 and $2,479 over the next few trading sessions.

A sustained breakout above the upper boundary would favor a stronger recovery, while a close below the $2,383 support level would weaken the immediate bullish setup.

Currently, the one-hour and four-hour timeframes are bullish, with the bulls looking to push ETH past the key resistance level.

However, unless the daily candle closes above $2,400, Ethereum could revisit the weekend low in the near term.

Currently, analysis remains constructive while ETH holds its nearby support, with the resilience above the moving averages partly offset by weaker ETF demand.

Ethereum’s near-term position reflects competing signals: persistent ETF withdrawals on one side and relatively firm technical momentum on the other.

Closing the daily candle above the $2,380–$2,383 area would preserve the consolidation scenario. Losing it would increase the risk of renewed weakness, particularly if leveraged positions amplify market moves.

For buyers, a sustained break above $2,479 would provide clearer evidence that the market is moving beyond consolidation despite subdued ETF demand.
